Homophones words!
Their faces, when they listen to the same words twice, and I ask them to tell the different between them are priceless. I enjoy messing around with my students. Sometimes they have the right answer, but they are scared to say it out and loud because it doesn't look like the correct answer! They have learned to tell me “teacher are the sameeeee!!!” while they roll their eyes.
We practice Homophones words in different ways. For example, using this Quizlet! or with flashcards in the class. They listen and learn that these words are pronounced in the same way, but be carefully, because they are spelled in different ways.
As a group, students take turns to create a sentence using one of our homophones words, the rest of the class has to guess with meaning is he or she uses. For example: I have four markers in my pencil case VS This present is for you.
If you want to practice writing, you can ask them to write two sentences with two homophones words.

Hi Celeste!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog! It transmits your passion for teaching.
You are very creative. I like how you link ICT tool and contents. Specially in this activity with homophones words you are working not only listening but writing and speaking at the same time.
I like that one post is one idea for an activity, It's easy to navigate and read.
